Our Archive & Library

ICPEM Archive

The Institute of Civil Protection and Emergency Management (ICPEM) maintains a growing archive, which primarily focuses on the Cold War period. We are actively working to catalogue and expand these archives into a comprehensive Resource Centre that will serve the needs of our members and students.

Contribute to the Archive

We invite members to contribute to this valuable resource. While most of the historical materials are in hard copy, we welcome the submission of new documents in electronic format. We are particularly interested in books, reports, and documents related to disasters, major incidents, and emergency planning and response. If you have any relevant materials, please consider sharing them with us. This includes contingency plans for national events such as Coronations or smaller-scale local activities, as well as documents related to strikes, civil disturbances, and emergency plans for high-risk sites such as COMAH/CIMAH facilities. Older versions of plans are particularly valuable for reference purposes.

ICPEM is committed to safeguarding these materials for future generations.

Accessing the Archive and Library

In the future, we aim to provide online access to our archived materials, though currently, a search can be conducted on your behalf. Digitised content will gradually be made available online.

Leave a Legacy

We also encourage members to consider leaving relevant materials or financial support to ICPEM in their will, helping to preserve this valuable resource for future generations.

For further information or to contribute, please contact Dr. Ken Hines at admin@theicpem.org.
